Estonia’s most prestigious fashion design award Kuldnõel (Golden Needle) is given to an outstanding fashion designer or brand for creative consistency over at least the past five years, considering the quality and functionality of collections, relevance and beauty, sales success, and export potential.
The Hõbenõel (Silver Needle) is awarded for the most memorable contribution to the fashion scene in the past year—an honor recognizing bold initiative, exceptional entrepreneurship, a brilliant idea, and energetic execution.
Awards
In 2013, a new award—the Silver Needle—was introduced alongside the Golden Needle.
In addition to the Kuldnõel (Golden Needle) and Hõbenõel (Silver Needle), other awards have also been presented. In 2009, 2010, and 2014, the Kuldnõel (Golden Needle) jury decided to award the Moemootor (Fashion Engine) prize, recognizing individuals in the Estonian fashion industry who, in addition to their professional work, actively advocate for Estonian fashion both locally and internationally. The Moemootor (Fashion Engine) award was given to Reet Aus in 2009, photographer Filippo Caroti in 2010, and Tanel Veenre in 2014.
Kuldnõel (Golden Needle), Hõbenõel (Silver Needle), Väike Nõel (Small Needle), Kuldne Nõelakoda (Golden Needle Workshop), and Moemootor (Fashion Engine) awards were all designed by metal artist Jaanus Valt.
